REACH – a safe solution
As a user of chemical substances you will also have more responsibility as to the safe use of the substances due to the REACH regulations. Your manufacturer or importer that produces or imports substance quantities > 1 t/y - < 10 t/y will be subject to a compulsory registration and must complete a registration dossier. In this dossier, amongst other information, the intended use of the substance must be documented. This data is then stated in the safety data sheet of the manufacturer, importer or user.
Regarding a produced or imported quantity of more than 10 t per year your manufacturer or importer is obligated in the context of the production of a material safety report to accomplish a substance safety evaluation. In this evaluation all customers (substance users) and their respective uses of the product are documented. Here it is possible to help your manufacturer, importer or user by informing him of your usage of the product.
This information is then used by the manufacturer, importer or user for the production of the safety data sheet. In the safety data sheet the exposure scenarios and the appropriate conditions are documented. Your use of the product can also be handled confidentially. It is of course possible that your special use deviates from the characteristics represented in the exposure scenario. Then it will be your task to compile a material safety report in accordance with the guidelines of appendix XI.
Furthermore, the manufacturer, importer etc. must communicate to the agency that your use of the product differs to the conditions which are described in the safety data sheet exposure scenario.
